Here's To Old School Love, The Kind That Stays

Jhilmil From Barfi

There's been enough said about love. We speak so often about it. But once in a while, cinema gives us a tale that remains with us for a long time.

This tale of love and the journey to find it, stays my favorite. And the character remains close to the heart. ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Jhilmil and Barfi did not have a conventional love story. Jhilmil, grew fond of Barfi while running away from one situation to another. She would not leave him, once he took her responsibility. From clinging on to his pocket, to running after him and definitely not running away from the falling lamppost, for Barfi's trust test, she did prove that love doesn't need to have a language. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

From the adventures in 'Kyon' to the feeling that 'Phir le aaya dil' left, their journey was one to watch and oh, love(?)

The old school feelings that rush and stay, that's what Jhilmil brings on the screen and to us. Making it something that we'd want to be a part of, or find for ourselves.

We are not perfect at all, as people, as humans, we are somewhat structured to make mistakes. But when we do stumble upon a person who makes it better, who makes us better, without being perfect themselves, that's what needs to be kept, that's what needs to be held, to be specific. Something, that might take all the efforts that we can make, but what's also worth all of them.

The idea of having a perfect partner was not in her books. She'd find her perfect in someone, she knew would stay.

Jhilmil chose to be with Barfi despite everything that came their way. They did live happily ever after without all that is conventionally required to have a happy ending. ⠀⠀

She didn't leave Barfi and his pinky finger through life and she definitely didn't do it through death. Clearly, death didn't part them.

Love can be so many things, but it's definitely trust and friendship, Jhilmil lay with him and left this for us to understand.
